Why California and Texas are at the centre of a redistricting battle

Tony TONY SAYS:
So, listen to this horseshit. California and Texas – two states, more people than you can shake a stick at, right? They’re locked in this… *political war*, they call it. A war over what? Redrawing the f***ing lines, see? Congressional districts. Like some kind of bizarre, high-stakes game of Operation. Texas, these Republican bastards, they decided, middle of the decade, *out of nowhere*, they’re gonna redraw their districts. Five more seats for the Republicans, they’re aiming for. Like they’re planning a goddamn invasion, these *geniuses*. Five more seats, imagine that? Like grabbing five extra cannolis at a wake, only instead of happiness, it's political power. And California, these liberal crybabies, they ain't taking it lying down. They saw what Texas did, and what do they do? They pull their own stunt. They redraw their own districts – *bam*, five more seats for the Democrats. They’re playing tit-for-tat, only with political power instead of… well, you know. It's like two kids fighting over the last slice of gabagool, only the stakes are a little higher. A lot higher. This whole thing is a goddamn circus, a three-ring circus with clowns running the show, capisce? But it's not all laughs, you know? It’s about power, about who controls the House of Representatives. Four thirty-five seats, and these guys are fighting over every single one. It’s pathetic. Reminds me of that time Paulie Walnuts tried to muscle in on Carmine’s territory. Except instead of a broken kneecap, it's a redistricting battle. Much less messy, that’s for sure. Now, the Democrats, they're only three seats away from taking over the House. Three! And these guys are going to war over it. It’s absurd. You’d think they'd have something better to do than redraw maps. Like, I don’t know, actually *govern*? Historically, the president's party – in this case, Biden's crew – loses seats in the midterms. That's just how it is. It’s like clockwork. Always has been. It's almost predictable, like that time my wife Carmela wanted to redo the kitchen again. Predictable and expensive. This whole redistricting thing is expensive as hell, too, probably costing enough to buy a decent, uh, *ahem*, I mean legitimate, business. The whole thing's a mess. A beautiful, terrifying, politically motivated mess. But hey, at least it’s entertaining. Kinda like watching a family fight at a christening. Except, you know, the stakes are a little higher. A *lot* higher. This is a reminder, though, that even in this crazy world, there are always those trying to gain an advantage. Reminds me of the time I… nah, forget it. That's another story for another time. This whole thing with the districts though? It’s a reminder to stay sharp, stay ahead of the game, you understand? Otherwise, you end up on the losing end of the gabagool, and nobody wants that, right?
